Data is , without question , the most strategic asset of virtually any organisation . Therefore , it is critical that data protection and privacy policies and protocols are reviewed , tested and improved .

After all , data can enable organisations to be successful across virtually every facet – from competitive advantage to innovation , the employee experience and customer satisfaction to legal and regulations compliance competency .
In fact , it would be difficult to identify an industry that can ’ t be transformed with the power of data .
For instance in healthcare , the power of data is transforming the way medical professionals provide care , helping to improve patient outcomes , reduce medical errors and drive innovation in the field of medicine .
Additionally , in financial services , data empowers the financial industry by providing insights into customer behaviour and market trends , which banks and financial institutions can use to optimise their offerings , reduce risk and make more informed investment decisions . It also helps them combat fraud and money laundering , improve regulatory compliance and enhance the customer experience by offering personalised services and tailored financial advice .
However , with great power also comes great responsibility .
Therefore , as companies collect and ensure the privacy of an ever-increasing amount of data , they must also ensure the resilience of the storage on which it is being kept . In terms of resilience , the first thing that the ideal solution should enable is allowing the customer to choose the level of resilience they need . One size cannot possibly fit all .
Second , the storage solution should also repair any read failure or data integrity failure automatically , by dynamically recreating any failed blocks . Consequently , even if there are multiple concurrent drive failures , data loss or corruption is prevented , while operations and Business Continuity are maintained – and no need for a drive replacement and rebuild fire drill .
The truth is , for companies to successfully implement their desired data protection and privacy policies and protocols , they require a storage system that is equally robust and reliable . It is a hand-in-glove scenario , where having strong data policies and great storage independently is good , but combining the two in a complementary way is truly great .
