During our time in healthcare , technology and venture capital , we have observed that the most transformative companies are those that bring together two industries . At Black Opal Ventures , we believe that transformative companies in healthcare will develop and use the most cutting-edge technologies . We also know that there are very few women in venture capital , yet women bring different views , working styles and networks that can be very helpful for entrepreneurs .
How do you plan to support and empower female entrepreneurs and founders in the HealthTech space through your investments and mentorship ?
A few challenges that we have faced in our careers include self-doubt , being the only woman in the room as a board member or executive , and not seeing women at the top of the investing world . We hope to change the face of venture capital and support female entrepreneurs through our Fellows program ( a program of rotating MBA and MD students ), support of women within our firm , and coaching our portfolio on the value of diversity on teams and how to build and support diverse teams .
Can you provide insights into the criteria and qualities you are looking for in startups and entrepreneurs that you choose to invest in , especially when it comes to advancing diversity and inclusivity in the industry ?
We look for visionary founders who have demonstrated the ability to execute that vision coupled with innovative technologies with a strong value proposition in healthcare . Although we do not exclusively invest in a specific demographic of founders or CEOs , we understand the value that diverse founders and leadership bring to the table and look for entrepreneurs who understand that value . �
