Generative AI ( GenAI ) is rapidly evolving and impacting life sciences in significant ways . This technology has the potential to revolutionise everything from drug discovery to patient care by automating tasks , improving workflows , and enhancing processes . The vast datasets produced by the life sciences industry , combined with advanced AI capabilities , offer powerful synergies for drug discovery and healthcare innovation . This trend will only continue to evolve at a rapid pace in the years ahead .
Synthetic biology is revolutionising the way we create materials , manufacture goods , and develop novel therapeutics . One of the most transformative tools in synthetic biology is CRISPR ( Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats ), which has advanced from a precise gene-editing tool to a versatile platform for programmable biological systems . CRISPR technology is now being used to reprogramme microorganisms to produce biofuels , biodegradable plastics , and highvalue chemicals in a more sustainable way than conventional processes .
The UK was one of the first countries in the world to approve gene editing as a potential cure for two inherited blood disorders .
